“Some places they play football at Alabama we live it”. The TIDE is by far the most successful college football program ever in the history of college football! Now, it is 2010 The CRIMSON TIDE is the current National Champion they have more NATIONAL TITLES than anyone else. Alabama has made 57 post-season appearances which is more than any other team in history which they hold that spot in front of Texas who has 49 post-season appearances! Bama is tied only with USC with 31 post-season wins! Alabama is the only college football program that owns winning records against all of its in-conference rivals both past and present! Not only that, but Alabama has accomplished all the greatness while being in the most powerful conference in the history of college football … the all mighty SEC! So haters go ahead and argue against the facts and believe what you want we know the facts and the TIDE will continue to rise ” this is just the beginning”. The crimson tide will continue to dominate like it has over the years, yes it has had is down years but still no other team has come close in overtaking our spots in the record books. We will continue with pride honoring our outstanding traditions, concentrating on continuing to dominate the state, wining SEC championships and wining National championships. Because in Tuscaloosa, the crystal football is back where it belongs
In this day and time people want to question or “debunk” Alabama’s national championships, First of all, Alabama can legitimately claim 13 national championships with as much right as any other school that claims titles dating back to the 1800’s.. I don’t see ignorant people “debunking” Notre Dame’s, Princeton’s, Yale’s, Michigan’s, and Southern California’s titles. All of these schools claim to have more championships than are listed, but just because I tell people I am the best does not make it true. The championships are based on actual polls and it depends on when you acknowledge the “official” start of a National Championship each school can accurately claim they have the most National Champion Titles! The official national championship of college football did not begin until the BCS, prior there were numerous organizations that awarded championships, The Dickinson System was the first to gain widespread national public and media acceptance as a “major selector”, according to the NCAA Football Records Books. None of them were more legitimate than the other. Starting in 1869 through 1935 the National Championship Foundation awarded national championships. In 1883 through 1935 the Helms Athletic Foundation awarded national championships. In 1919 through 1935 College Football Researches Association awarded national championships. In 1936 the Associated Press Poll and in 1950 the Current Coaches Poll were added to the formula in deciding and are still being used today. In 1954 the Football Writers Association of America and in 1959 the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame were added to the mix in deciding the national champion. Since 1998 the BCS was created, BCS relies on a combination of polls including the AP poll, the Coach’s poll and computer selection methods to determine relative team rankings, and to narrow the field to two teams to play in the BCS National Championship. In the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s is was difficult to determine a National Champion, polls during that time since they were awarding championships before a bowl game was ever played. Championships during that time were considered “mythical national champions”, “national poll champions”, “and consensus national champions”. The “Mythical national champion” was a term used since before 1940 for a championship won by a NCAA division I football team. Especially for titles won before the current BCS system which began in 1998. Before the BCS, polls awarded championships, the coaches and/or sport writers voted, such as the AP, UPI and USA today polls, they all have combined during the early years to awarded championships. This led to seasons in which two or even more teams could claim to have won a national championship. The NCAA record book also recognizes “consensus national championships” as championships given to teams since 1950 by any poll, but not necessarily all of the following: the Associated Press, United Press International, Football Writers Association of America, National Football Foundation/College Football Hall of Fame, USA Today/CNN or USA Today/ESPN. On another list in The NCAA record book t also recognizes the “national poll champions” which started way back in the 1900’s it also awarded a national champion before a bowl game was ever played, bowl games didn’t start till the 1902 season, the 1902 Rose bowl, was played between Michigan and Stanford. Michigan won 49-0. It ended when Stanford requested to end the game with 8 minutes left to go in the game and Michigan agreed. That game was so lopsided that the game was not played annually until 1916, when the Tournament of Roses decided to reattempt the postseason game. The term “bowl” originates from the shape of the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California. The NCAA started recognizing championships in 1936. They did not name the champion; they just recognized who was named champion per whatever poll was in place during that year. Alabama has 13 officially recognized national championships by the NCAA additionally there are like 4 or 5 more that are unofficial according to the NCAA. Princeton has something like 24 but 19 of those came in the 1800′s when there were only 3 or 4 teams. IF you look at their record from the first championships they won with a record of 1-0 or 2-0. They still claim them where are the haters “debunking” them? The University of Alabama has 13 NCAA recognized National Championships: 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992, and 2009. So please tell me why people continue to “debunk” Alabama’s championships? Share the hate with the other teams that claim the same championships over the years that they were awarded don’t get mad because you cannot win a championship or praying that the NCAA gives you one…. This is going to be the never-ending story of college football, which team who can or can’t claim a title that was awarded to them by a poll that was called upon and created to award a national champion during the era of a non BCS system. due to the vague ranking systems that have been in place since 1920 when the first poll was created by an economics professor with the university of Illinois, because a sense of urgency started setting in to justifiably determine a national champion, confusion on how to declare a champion is constant debate, Until NCAA starts holding a Championship Game after a legitimate playoff there will never be a true champion in the eyes of the teams who are left out of the BCS title game with equal records!!!!!!
